Becoming a foster family

Hi there IMs

Ive been thinking alot lately about my lil family. I am very lucky to be blessed with a loving adoring husband and 2 beautiful little girls 2yrs and 4.5yrs. I have been thinking and discussing with my husband about opening up our family to children in need and becoming a foster family. Has anyone been a foster family or been in a foster family? What are your thoughts on it but most importantly do you think it would affect my children in a negative way as they are only young? I believe we are a loving family and have alot to offer. we have a lovely home and farm and are set up extreamly well for young children.

So I guess what I'm asking is any experiences that people have had in regards to fostering and the type of foster carer you are. eg emergency care, long care, medium care, respite care or permanent adoptive care.

Rules vary from state to state. Most foster care agencies advise you don't do it while you have young children and you want to have your children Much older than any foster child that comes into your home.
Some of these children are very disturbed and have come from disturbing backgrounds so your children need to be old enough that you know they wouldn't be influenced by a foster child or taken advantage of in some way (yes, it happens).
I think it's a great thing to do, and I researched it thoroughly we just don't have a spare room and can't move at this time. A spare bedroom is mandatory.

Personally if I was you I'd take on babies for now due to your kids ages.
