Career advice

Does anyone know any good websites that offer career counselling? I am feeling a little bit stuck and unsure of what my next step to take is. Also has anyone done a Bachelor of Business (Public Relations). It's a business degree with a communications major. Have you been able to find work with that afterwards? I'm also interested in an online human resources degree but I can't seem to find any undergraduate ones, they seem to be post graduate. So I am debating on completing my Bachelor's degree and then maybe doing something with human resources postgrad. Just feeling stuck and unsure.

I did Bachelor of Business Communication majoring in PR and Marketing at QUT (graduated 1991) and have had a successful career in marketing and communications. My uni friends and I have had careers in industry but I could name several high profile media personalities too who were there when I was. Fantastic degree and very portable across Australia and the English speaking world. I have a son doing Business with HR and marketing at the moment. It's changed substantially in the 20+ years but one of the best employees I ever had was a graduate with a similar degree. Getting your degree is the start - you have to start applying it in the real world to be successful. IMO on campus is the best way to do a communications degree - you need to learn to be a good communicator face-to-face to succeed in the industry - all this online stuff is great but the most under-rated and valuable skill in business today is 'real time'. Finally in communications you need to be able to SPELL and use grammar and punctuation. Good luck :)

Hi I'm just finalising my training to be a career coach, to help people just like you to become unstuck! I would be happy to offer you some sessions by Skype (free of charge as I'm still a student). I've also worked in corporate communications for 15 years so have quite a bit of understanding about what the field is about. Please feel free to send me a PM if you'd like an initial chat. All the best!
