Anxiety and employment

Hello everyone!

My partner has some serious anxiety issues and I believe (and so does he) if he were to go to a GP he would be diagnosed with anxiety. I am encouraging this so he can learn healthy ways to deal with anxiety, but he is worried he then would have to list it on job applications or it may prevent him from gaining certain employment (for a bit of context he is an electrician, hoping to land some mining/industrial work). My knowledge is you don't have to list a health issue on a job application unless it prevents your work in the workplace, (his anxiety is not driven from work) and when future employers do a health check they do not necessarily have access to his health files from his GP. Can anybody please tell me if this is true? Would he have to tell future employers or would they gain access to his health files with a medical?

Thanks in advance.

No, future employers can not gain access to your medical records, that is illegal!!!
No he doesn't have to tell future employers that he has suffered from anxiety, or any illness really. Nobody would be employable if that was the case!
I think that's his anxiety talking quite honestly and he does really need to get to the doctors ASAP!

I have done a million FIFO job applications for my dad and from memory, they always ask about illness/injuries that effect your ability to work and illnesses/injuries that stopped you from working, so he could answer no to both of those. You do a full physical check with the docs plus they do blood tests for alcohol and illicit drugs. I dont think anti anxiety meds would show up as they are specifically looking for particular substances. I honestly think he would be fine.
