It just about kills me with boredom the games that my son wants me to play so I usually do it in intervals. Eg 10 mins play, 20 mins Cleaning, 10 mins play, 20 mins Cleaning etc etc. If we go out tho I find if other kids are there I can just sit back and watch a bit more as he hasnt only got me. Sometimes I feel guilty that it's not enough but most games truly do my head in. Plus it teaches him imagination and independence by me not always being there.
It was a long time ago for me, but I definitely didn't play/interact all day! Kids do need to entertain themselves for part of the day. The younger they are the more attention and supervision they need.
If I was doing housework and they wanted to interact then they could talk to me, pass me the pegs, help while I do the job that needs doing. But I've always been the type of parent who takes a moment to let them play independently. I certainly have said you need to play on your own for (set time) while I do this job/activity.
With an 8 month old its hard. And once they start toddling and demanding it will get harder. I love doing things with my three and four year old. Younger was hard work.
I was told by my daughters teacher that you do not need to play all day with kids. They need to learn how to entertain themselves. So not all day, I just do it here and there.
I do not play pretend games lol. I play lego sometimes but basically they just want me to hunt down the pieces they need haha. We read books every night. Often go outside and practice cricket skills.
I don't spend my whole day playing with the kids though. They are capable of entertaining themselves.
They follow me around the house talking non stop and help with cooking frequently. We spend plenty of quality time together, doesnt mean i have to play their made up games of ninjas and dinosaurs.
