Hi Sisters.
How does one get motivation. What motivates you?
My motivation is coffee in the morning. Meaning i have no motivation for anything else.
I only clean my house when i know i have a friend coming over & that's maybe once a month.
I can never find motivation to do housework. It's really effecting me & i avoid my house for hours so i dont see the mess or i stand around & waste 3 hrs doing nothing.
Any tips that i could try? What works for you?

I need a routine. So I do things at set times in the day. Like while I watch my favourite TV show I fold the washing. I wipe the bathroom over when my son is in the bath.
Music. Shake my booty a bit while doing the vacuuming, dishes and school lunches all get done while dinner is cooking, washing gets done first thing on a Saturday or Sunday morning
Write up a "chore chart" (call it something different though, and do what's on the list for that day.
I HATE cleaning, and often forget to follow my chart. But when I do follow it, it's so easy to keep a clean house. (I even tend to do the next days "chores", so I get a free day ;) )
Example:
Monday's- strip beds. Wash sheets (add some clothes to fill up the machine). Tidy bedrooms.
Tuesday's- clean kitchen.
Wednesday- clean lounge room. Vaccuum house. Load of washing.
Thursday-clean bathroom and toilets.
Friday-clean kitchen.
Saturday- clean lounge. Load of washing.
Sunday- nothing.
Each day, add "wash dishes" and "make beds" to the list.
When you have only one or two "big" things to do a day, it's not as overwhelming.
I usually make a list of what things need to be done each day. I have 3 kids and a husband who is always filthy lol so am doing at least 2 loads of wash a day hang it up when bub is portside playing with the dogs. Then sit and watch my fav show and fold wash. Lounge is everyday
Clean the kitchen everyday well dishes at least, vacuum one day then bedrooms and sheets on a Wednesday Air out all blankets and pillows if sunny.
Bathrooms on a Thursday. Friday's i do all my shopping, 2 of my kids are my step kids and we only have them once a fortnight, so i do my shopping before we pick them up ?
Get rid of your stuff!! Seriously, declutter and be real about what you need and what you can sell/donate/chuck out. The less stuff you have the less you need to tidy, dust and clean :) Search for minimalism on YouTube for inspiration. Will help for things to be less overwhelming to begin with. Good luck!
After my second child I had the same problem. I joined a gym with group fitness classes and a creche and put things on a schedule even down to planning our meals for the week on a Sunday. It took a couple of weeks but now I find I know what has to be done and I am more motivated to get it done early so I can spend time just hanging with the kids.
I used to be like you. I really was just pure lazy. At the end of the day....nobody enjoys cleaning but the alternative is living in squaller. Trust me, it feels really good to wake up to a spotless house every morning. The only way to do that is to clean EVERY day. I had to teach myself how to be like this because I grew up in a messy house and it was all I knew. I definitely agree with decluttering. Everyone I know with a messy house just has too much stuff. Cull at least half your stuff. Organise. So go through every single cupboard and use baskets to organize things. Having a place for everything is the start of it and makes cleaning sooooooo quick and easy. There's an art to it and I've finally figured it out. Go through your pantry and put EVERYTHING in containers that are labelled. My house is clean every day. You could rock up anytime and it is. 3 kids a dog and a hubby. And I spend about 2hrs a day cleaning. Even on days I work. I just split it up to an hour in the moring and an hour at night. One more thing - fold your washing as soon as it's dry. Don't let it pile up. Takes a mere 10 mins to do one load folding and putting away. Or you can let it pile up over days and it will take you half an hour. Good habit to get into. I love the feeling of a clean organised home so much more than my old lazy self!
I was exactly the same after my 2nd, I would spend hours anywhere else because I couldn't get motivated to fix the house mess. It took me 6 months and my energy seemed to be getting less and less so I saw my gp and turns out I have pnd. Low dose of antidepressants and after about 4 weeks I was back to my self. My house will never be spotless but it's so much easier to start now. I also hired a cleaner for 2 hours for 2 weeks just to clean with me, it was like hitting a reset switch on the house and gave me a clean slate to maintain
