What are some good children's stories or movies/shows (suitable for 5 year old) with seperated parents. My ex and I broke up when he was only a few months old but because he sees parents together all the time in shows he seems confused about having a dad at all. He doesn't see his dad much so it's hard for him to bond with him. He thinks of him as a stranger. Just as he gets to warm up to him his dad doesn't see him for months usually for apparent illness so it strains the relationship. I think it's partly to do with seeing everyone else with dad's around all the time. On Tv and in real life.

Aww the poor boy. He's very lucky to have such a thoughtful loving mum like you who wants to help him and show him it's okay.
Maybe you could do a Google search and find a bunch of people who don't have dads either. Sporting heroes he likes, anyone in any of the tv shows he likes. Any family members he looks up to possibly? Just so he knows it's not that strange and even if he has one person that he looks up to that he knows didn't have a dad either I think it could really help.
He will turn out just fine with you as his mum and dad rolled into one, but it's lovely you want to make him feel better while he's still such a little one.
