Hi ladies, expecting my first baby any day now. Still undecided on whether I feel comfortable using Pethidine. I have heard baby can be quite drowsy and have difficulty latching/breastfeeding after using it. What was your experience? I'm really wanting breastfeeding to be a success so want to avoid anything that could hinder this. Thanks so much.

I was given the pethadine shot, didn't ask for it, they thought I needed it.. Did nothing for the pain, just made me drowsy. I had an emergency ceaser where I had to be put to sleep. It was 4 hours after bub was born before I saw him. He latched on very well and gulped me dry lol apparently he hadn't even cried for a feed when they cut him out though.
I had the pethedine shot & it did nothing to my son, but me, I was in laa laa land lol it was great help & I still remember everything even though I was drowsy. I couldn't even stay awake properly, when I sat up I felt a giddy kind of dizziness & it made me so relaxed. I didn't ask for it either but they said I needed it.
I was given it 30mins before my daughter was born, she wasn't drowsy, she latched on really well, even with a tongue tie. I was exhausted already with a back labour and only having about 3 hrs sleep, and it was a quick labour of 1.5hrs, but I do remember being a lil unsteady on my feet when I went for a shower after she was settled with daddy. I didn't use anything with my first two. But i also used the shower as a pain relief which was wonderful
