ADHD

My son recently got diagnosed with ADHD. I've never seem to feel it was ADHD (denile perhaps) but here we are. What did you do when you first found out? We have been given the medication route, but am I happy with that? I'm very unsure about it all. Your experiences etc would be ideal

Some things I've learnt over the years. You don't get a diagnosis easily. So if they have a diagnosis it's for a reason. I assume you and at least one other person filled in the questionnaire which lead to the diagnosis. Nobody wants there child to have ADHD or any other diagnosis we accept it because if we don't we make life more difficult for our kids than it needs to be. I cried, I threw a tantrum for about a week (in private) and then I pulled myself together and got on with it.
We tried the diet route (before diagnosis) and it was a total waste of time and energy. Medication was a game changer. I had all the usual guilt feelings about giving medication but then I realised that my son was much much happier and that I wouldn't feel guilty of he had to take medication for diabetes or another illness and that I needed to get over myself!

Has anyone on here had a child prescribed Ritalin who does not have a diagnosis of either ADD or ADHD?? I would like to hear from someone in a similar situation and how their experience was?
