Sick child

Hey IM's,
My daughters been unwell for around 3 months now. She had an ear infection it went away came back than went away and came back. She had it 3 times in 5/6 weeks. Shes always spewed more than usual for a child but I never really worried too much except after the ear infections she spewed a lot more. She won't eat she doesn't drink much. She spews a bit. She goes from constipated poos to runny to normal to hard. Her iron is at 3 when it should be minimum 10. She's always had low iron right from when she was a baby. She sleeps more times than not lately. She doesn't really get up to play just lays on the lounge and doesn't want to do anything. You've got to really encourage her to get up and be active. She's been sent home from daycare so much because everytime she spews she's excluded for 24 hours. They've been lovely and Ive dropped her days from 5 days to 2. My sister is going to have her for awhile on the other 3. Daycare didn't make me give notice thank goodness. I thought maybe it was daycare but she spews at home and she's spent time at both my sisters houses recently and she didn't even want to play with their girls she just laid there which isn't here. Normaly she's annoying the crap out of you lol. She always wants me most of the time. My sisters away this week so she's staying with my dad while I'm at work and he said she just lays on the lounge she didn't really want to even go to the park.
My mum took her to another gp for me becuaSe I felt like I was getting nowhere. A paediatrician admitted us for one night she perked up as she does for a day here and there than goes back down hill. So he said nothing was wrong and sent us on our way. Inwasnt happy with the outcome but felt like I wasnf being listened too. He agreed to give me a referral to. Gastro paed as I have crohns disease and so many of the signs she has is exactly how I was as a child and even some things now. I'm waiting to go to that gastro paed. The gp my mum took her to the other day looked at all her bloods and thinks it is a bowel disease. She's ordered a poo sample but my daughter not pooing much so im struggling to get one as she hasnt pood yet.
She's lost 2 kilos in 2 weeks as she was weighed at the hospital and I weighed her tonight. The gp the other day said just give her whatever she wants. Don't worry about what food it is don't force her to eat (which we don't) but also don't stress so much about the quality of it just give her whatever she wants so she's getting something.
Yesterday she ate nothing but a couple of plain chips, kinder surprise and a doughnut. The other day she ate 3 biscuits coated in chocolate, a bit of mashed potato and 3 grapes. Today she had one peice of bread, a spoonful of egg and and breadroll. She's 3.5 years old and would eat so much food. This isn't like her. She doesn't eat some days and I've even offered chocolate and ice cream for breakfast which she refuses. Not like her. She'd jump at the chance to have chocolate or ice cream. I don't normally give her a lot of that so normally when I do she's like yes please!
I'm feeling so lost and anxious. Has any other mums been through anything similar? What was the outcome? How did you get them to eat more? She will eat an apple but pretty much that's it. She can go all day without eat have an apple and go to bed. Or if she eats a fair amount she's spewing it up. I've tried changing milk to lactose free milk. Etc none of it made a difference. Sorry for the long rant. I'm just one stressed out worried mummy. I've been to the Drs so many times I've lost count over the past 3 months. Back and forwOrth told don't gove her dairy for a week it's a virus blah blah im like sure Cuz a virus lasts this long. She will just lay on the lounge all day. Sleep for hours at a time when she normally dosesnt have a day sleep. Daycare said she wasn't herself didn't even play there. So lost right now.
Thank you of you read all this and thank you If you've got any experience in something similar. Please not judgement on what im giving her lately never would I keep her diet like this. I'm normally really strict and it's stressing me the crappy foods she's eating but I need her to have something anytbing she's loosing too much weight. She can't loose Much more becuaSe she will be way to skinny.
Thank you x

I've not been through the exact same thing, but have experienced my son having extreme weight loss, and loss of appetite due to an already diagnosed condition.
It was so hard to watch but I got really good at calorie loading what he would/could eat.
I don't know if this is helpful in your situation but for us, I found he would drink milkshakes so I got some sustagen and made milkshakes with that and added ice cream and a bit of chocolate topping! It meant at least he was getting something nutritious in him even if that meant it had loads of sugar.
As far as the specialists go, ask for the next available appointment but also ask if there is a cancellation wait list. We've gotten in to see specialists much faster because I did that.

Thank you. I might try that. She normally has a "cup of tea" of a morning. Warm chocolate milk but im trying not to give it to her becuaSe it's a 50/50 chance she will spew it up everywhere. It's so hit and miss. She will be ok with it one day the next spew it up than ok the next day. It's so weird. The specialist appointment is now only about a week away but it's been 2 weeks since we were in hospital. She's not picking up and when I seen the weight loss tonight I was like crap! Is it safe to give sustigon to children? Where did you buy it from?
I hope your sons doing well x

Have they checked for diabetes? 2kgs lost in a week is ringing alarm bells. I'm surprised doctors aren't doing more.

Yep they have checked that. And I'm so over it. They just keep palming me off. I only weighed her tonight and was like crap! The dr didn't weigh her the other day. And the paediatrician that admitted us was useless. So disappointed. I thought that given things showed in her bloods and I was telling him all this stuff he would listen. Nope she's fine see yah give her iron medication ?
The last gp ordered poo samples and said she wants them asap so they are back not long after our specialist appointment

It's. 50/50 chance she will keep milk down. It's not an alergy but im over cleaning up the spew. If she has something anything milk or breakfast first thing of a morning epecially milk she's spewing it up. If you feed her something bland than wait awhile she can drink a thing of milk and be ok most times sometime she will still spew it up. But I've changed milks and she still spews. It's so hard. I wish I wasn't so worried about feeding her food as im trying to limit her spewing as she isn't eating much and ia vomiting already so im worried about giving Her stuff she's going to spew after

Hi there, I'm a dietitian. While you are waiting for your investigations, I would definitely take her to see a dietitian (APD) for advice, especially as unintentional weight loss can further decrease her immunity. They can tailor some advice and perhaps recommend a non milky nutritional supplement xx

I am an emergency nurse, please ignore many of the posts on the page! She doesn't need a blood transfusion and she doesn't need to go to emergency. 2 doctors have suggested it's a gastro problem and you have a referral to the paed gastro and waiting on stool spec, this is a good plan. If you like your paed stick with them and work through it together. Chopping and changing docs or being demanding at a hospital is unhelpful

This is going to sound horrible but worth ruling out.. Talk to your paediatrician about doing a head CT scan. My best friends daughter was always a spewy baby but at around 2.5yrs became worse with sudden nausea, lethargy and projectile vomiting. After lots of tests for reflux ect ect doctors discovered she had a brain tumour. It was in the part of the brain effecting her balance. Hopefully this is not the case for you daughter but mention it to a paediatric doctor just incase. Good luck and I hope it is just a virus that is lingering a little longer then most xx
