I feel so embarrassed to ask this but I'm a single mum of three and I have terrible teeth, huge overbite and now a few broken teeth, I had treatment when I was younger but it didn't work well and was told I needed surgery but my parents just couldn't afford it ( I think it was around $20000 at the time, for surgery, braces and all other treatment) so it was never taken care of, now I'm older I really want to just look some kind of normall- I know there are places that let you pay off braces ect but I can't afford to pay off the $6000 yet alone have surgery and other treatments, I work part time and get SPP but due to rent and Childcare I just don't have much left and what I do have has to go on food and stuff for the kids, my question is, can Medicare cover any treatment? Due to my overbite I suffer from dry mouth and it's making my teeth deteriorate quicker and I suffer from speech problems as well as eating problems, it's affecting my life so much now, I don't want to date or go out in public as I'm embarrassed and I'm so scared that this behaviour is going to affect my kids- thanks from a stressed Brissy mum

Hello! I'm a dental nurse and I work in a public hospital, in my opinion you need to contact the public sector and forget about private dental all together! Here is a link to some dental benefits you will receive just by being on a healthcare card
https://www.qld.gov.au/health/services/oral-eye-ear/dental-services/
There will be a wait list...but once you are in you are in! Wait it out.. be patient and good luck I hope this helps! Look up your community dental clinics for more information
Your comment that just took you probably 2 minutes to write is most probably going to change this imperfect mum's life, that's why I love this forum.
OP here thankyou so much for your help, everyone I have talked to about this urged me to go private due to rebates ect but I honestly found it to be such an expensive option as I just can't afford thousands to be reimbursed part of it, but I just can't live this way anymore, eating and talking is hard and it shouldn't be and I don't want to spend my life struggling with such basic tasks- I'll be looking into public help! Thankyou
