Im looking for some expierence with having your baby in a cranial reconstruction helmet to fix head shape. Did it work? How long did it take baby to get used to it? In hindsight would you do it again or wait longer to see if the head would fix its shape by itself? Any other info that would be helpful to know? My baby is 3 1/2 months and child nurse and physio have said it is moderate to severe and all the repositioning techniques may not work but it could even out by 3 or i can gt a helmet to help.

My daughter had a helmet around the 4-5 month mark. She had a tight neck muscle which made her always sleep with her head leaning one way, resulting in a misshaped head. She adapted to it immediately and we were lucky that she had a growth spurt not long after getting it. She had it on for about 7 weeks in total and I am really happy with the results. She is now 10 and her head isn't 100% symmetrical, although no one would be able to tell by just looking at her. I can only tell as it is difficult to judge where to part her hair down the back centre of her head.
I would definitely recommend it if your baby needs it. This time of year is perfect as the weather is cooler. Head growth starts to slow after 6 months, so the longer you wait potentially the longer it will be on.
My friends child had one and was told it would be needed for 6 weeks. They took it off after 6 weeks expecting the flat spot to be fixed. It wasn't, and their child still has a very flat head at the back. Don't take it off until you see results otherwise you are wasting your time and money. Her child is 9 and it has never corrected by itself.
The worst part was the comments from people who had no idea what purpose the helmet serves - eg did you drop your baby etc.
