Who runs the world....

So I'm about to rant. But I feel it's important!
Just this week I was invited to speak at a symposium in my career field. It's a heavily male driven industry.
At the end of my speech I was confronted with a group of men who said "you, are the future. Not just of this industry but of the world. Us men have been in charge for hundreds of years and look how badly we've fucked it all up. It time for the women of the world to show us how it's done and to fix what we have broken". I didn't know what to say, other than a shocked and stuttery "thanks".
And it got me thinking.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
Enough of women being thought of as weak, less important, just there to birth babies and cook meals.
I have two daughters and I say NO to a future filled with pre-conceived notions of what they can, should or would become.
I say FUCK NO to these 'men' who belittle, beat, disrespect, threaten or torment their partners. I say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH to the abuse!
We as women need to say "fuck that" to society STILL telling us that we earn less and are worth less than our penis-wielding counter parts.
Do NOT bow to the pressures of an aged 1900's society belief of what a woman is worth, what we are put on this earth for.
Don't stop fighting, don't get discouraged, and above all else show your daughters how strong we are as women, that they can do anything, that the days of living in a 'mans world' are over, because their mummy has worked so hard to change it all.
If your man isn't treating you right- leave! Don't put up with anything less than what you deserve for another day.
I'm so sick of hearing of all these beautiful women becoming statistics.
We are worth more than that. We were not born to just be a stastistic!
If you're not sure if you're strong enough, or are scared and shy, or are feeling overwhelmed, or anxious.
YOU CAN DO THIS.
You are amazing!
It's our turn ladies. Let's teach the world how to treat us!

Two thoughts...
Behind every successful man is a woman... Behind every successful woman is HERSELF!
Bad men get away with doing wrong because good men do nothing
Just my thoughts....

I cringe when I hear people excuse bad behaviour by saying its a 'man thing' or 'boys will be boys'. No, our men can do better and do do better and there are men that show me this every day.
I cringe when I hear female friends planning there 4 year old daughters wedding, like its a done deal, and that's the biggest thing she can aspire to.
I'm not saying there is something wrong with being married, absolutely not, but our girls need more than that. They need to hear us dream of them finishing uni, and getting good jobs. They need to know that being single is better and can be fulfilling and not this terrible thing, so that they don't hook themselves to a guy who treats them less than they deserve. They need to know that break ups aren't failures, they are just two people who aren't right for each other.

Amy Poehler was new to SNL and we were all crowded into the seventeenth-floor writers' room, waiting for the Wednesday read-through to start. There were always a lot of noisy "comedy bits" going on in that room. Amy was in the middle of some such nonsense with Seth Meyers across the table, and she did something vulgar as a joke. I can't remember what it was exactly, except it was dirty and loud and "unladylike."

Jimmy Fallon, who was arguably the star of the show at the time, turned to her and in a faux-squeamish voice said: "Stop that! It's not cute! I don't like it."

Amy dropped what she was doing, went black in the eyes for a second, and wheeled around on him. "I don't fucking care if you like it." Jimmy was visibly startled. Amy went right back to enjoying her ridiculous bit …

With that exchange, a cosmic shift took place. Amy made it clear that she wasn't there to be cute. She wasn't there to play wives and girlfriends in the boys' scenes. She was there to do what she wanted to do and she did not fucking care if you like it …
