I think my husband may have bipolar disorder - help

Hello IM's

I am after a little advice - I think my husband may have bipolar disorder and I am not sure how to deal with it. He exhibits all the classic symptoms - moodiness, risk taking behaviour amongst a myriad of other things. One day he is fine and everything is great but then the next he is moody and cruel. I have even asked him directly (when his mood appeared stable) if he is bipolar and he said he has often wondered if he is - he seems to be aware of his mood swings. He is not interested in seeing a doctor about it though. I just don't know what to do it feels like I am continuously on an emotional roller coaster because I don't know which husband I am going to get from one day to the next. I do love him but I am just emotionally exhausted. Are there any other IM's out there in this situation who is in a similar position who can offer some advice? Thanks in advance xxx

Bipolar isn't daily mood changes, you'd be looking at weeks or months on a low and then the same on a high
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what the cause of his behaviours is, if he's not willing to get help, you have to work out for yourself what you want and what you're willing to live with

My husband was diagnosed with bipolar 1.
I sooo get the rollar coaster.
The thing is, people cant just have a mental illness and then feel that they can act inappropriately and others just have to put up with it.

Heres what i learnt-its ok to supppot someone, but they Have to want to seek help themselves.

He needs to see a gp first up, probably with you and get a referral to a psychologist. He may just benefit from some talk therapy and learn some ways to better recognise and control his moods.

Ive truly been to hell and back with this so my heart feels for you.
