I sucked my thumb till i was 16. It messed my teeth up really badly but i eventually stopped on my own
If they are still suckling at that age they wont stop.
Most only do it when tired or asleep and if they aren't doing it at school it isnt a problem.
Peers can be pretty brutal otherwise. I wouldnt stress over it.

I sucked mine till I left home and got married at 19. Just let nature take it's course. Contrary to popular opinion my teeth did not get effected. Some people twiddle their hair, some jiggle their legs, some eat, some still have their teddy - it's just comfort - at home, generally in quiet times. No harm done.
