Cloth nappy advice!

Cloth nappy advice!

Hi Imperfect Mums!
I was hoping all you beautiful Mums/Dads could share your advice on cloth nappies!
My second baby is due in a few months and I was hoping to use cloth nappies. For a number of reasons - none of them financial.
I have never used a cloth nappy in my life - don't know anyone who has used them recently so I have zero experience/knowledge at all.
Any and all advice is appreciated.
Is there something you line the cloth nappy with? Any nappy services to wash nappies?
Any tips on storing dirty nappies until wash time etc etc!
I will use disposables if we are going out of the house for my own sanity/convinience but around home and at night I would like to use the cloth ?
Thanks so much!

I had three in cloth nappies (18 month old and Twins) mine was for financial reasons.
I had a bucket filled with hot water that lived in the laundry, with the napisan solution in it. As soon as a nappy was changed I rinsed the nappy and put it straight into the solution and the soaked all day. I washed them the next morning and made a fresh solution. It depends on your routine so you might like to differ that part.
They just don't hold as much so you'll be changing more often. Apply amolin every change. I also left the happy off for a while and just let them go nudie.
There were liners and outside pants you could use too.
Good luck

A quick Google and yes there are cloth nappy cleaning services for modern cloth nappies in most states.

I used old fashioned cloth nappies for my now 21 year old. I washed myself. You used to line them with a chux cloth type product that you bought in the supermarket which would hopefully stop the worst of the poo sticking to the nappy. You'd empty the poo in the toilet and rinse the nappy and chux in the laundry sink then soak the nappy and chux in a nappy bucket (with lid, babies have drowned in nappy buckets). If you missed a step the stink was awful! When the bucket was enough to do a load in the wash you'd fill up the washing machine. It was a major undertaking!

So I'd definitely go for a service if financially viable. At least with modern cloth nappies there isn't the origami folding to have to do :)
Plus with a service if it's all too hard you aren't stuck with a stock pile of nappies

Sorry sweetie, but having used both cloth and disposable for my now grown sons - disposable all the way! I have a relative in the science field who did the technical sums on cloth vs disposable and the environmental cost is the same. Especially if you use the really good quality disposables and only need 4 per 24hrs. Each to their own, but you're welcome to it. However - I loved cloth nappies as sick rags, etc. Still going strong for cleaning round the house 20 years later :)

I wanted to use cloth nappies but never got the fold down pat I didn't discover these existed until later down the track

After all 4 of my children I used a cloth nappy service and loved it.. Swear by it you place them in a bin once a week they got picked up and a new lot delivered. If someone is asking something you need for the baby get them to organise this best thing ever
