How to get my son concentrate

Hi ladies just got done talking to my boys teacher & she has informed me that he is not completing all his work in class because he is very easily distracted.

He is either looking around, playing in his desk or anything other than doing his work! He is apparently only doing 30 percent of his work.

She has said she knows he is smart because of the answers he gives & the work he does do!

I know he is only in year one but I need to get this under control now! Any suggestions are welcome
TIA

This is tricky because this concern is happening when you are not able to be present. If I was in your shoes, I would ask the teacher if I could volunteer/observe him in class (although realising he may act different) so I can better understand the impact it is having on his learning. If his teacher recognises that he is bright & not falling behind, then the issue is more related to his attention span, which is limited in MOST 5/6 year olds and should improve as he matures. Otherwise, if you are worried about his lack of retaining content, perhaps she can send some of the unfinished work home & he can do it there...hopefully increasing his understanding of the importance of staying focussed at school and doing his best to complete his work.

My son had trouble concentrating on one task at a time. A friend introduced me to kinesiology. I was hesitant to start with but over 6 weeks my son is benefiting from it.

I am going through the same thing with my 6yr old son.. I am working with teacher trying to get this under control..my son will misbehave in class aswell so the teacher has made a reward card for him to carry around his neck and when he finishes his work he gets a sticker on the card and once he gets all stickers on there he gets a prize.. It slowly getting better..good luck as it's stressful..
