Birth control Issues and suggestions

Hi ladies, I have a question about the different types of contraception that you use.

I have used implanon for about 18 months after my son was born almost 12 years ago and hated it (periods that last 2 weeks then a 2 week break and back again). The doctor then put me onto the pill (Levlen) and was on that ever since. It worked perfectly with me and I had no issues. The problem is when I went to get a refill, the doctor asked the typical questions, any issues, anyone in the family with blood problems (such as blood clots/DVT) and I told her that my sister got DVT about 2 years ago.

Anyway, she freaked out and refused to prescribe me the pill (due to higher blood clot issues) and suggested I go on Mirena. After asking around and seeing reviews I seemed to get the feeling there was more bad than good about it. I went back to the doctor and told her no I didn't want that and wanted another option. She ended up giving me the 'mini pill' which apparently has less risk in getting blood clots, however I'm going onto my 4 month of being on it and my periods have been going for 2 weeks (and it's not just light spotting either) !!

I don't know if it's just my body still trying to get use to the new pill or if it just doesn't suit me.

Surely there must be something better ?? Is it really that much of a risk being on the normal pill after my sister had DVT? I just don't want to be having my periods for 2 weeks every month and being on Levlen suited me perfectly !!!

Thank you in advance for any suggestions you may have !!

Don't believe the negative hyp regarding the mirena. As with every contraceptive it has been studied to death and yes there are a small vocal minority who have had problems with it. People don't tend to go on the Internet and type in how good something is, so the vocal minority win. I had a terrible experience with the implanon for example but for you it worked great.
I'd re discuss with your doctor about your specific fears and ask her to look up the percentages.
Otherwise have you considered something like the nuva-ring? I don't know the risk of blood clots with it but worth a look into.
