Hi IMs!
I've got a 9mo boy who only cat naps and I'm getting to the point where I need some serious help before I go crazy. I am so sleep deprived! I have two other children, one with ASD, and find my ability to handle problems and maintain patience is all but gone.
Bub tends to sleep in 45 or 90 minute cycles. The longest he's ever slept is three hours and that happens maybe once every fortnight and is usually early evening.
During the day he tends to have 2 45 minute sleeps or one 90 minute sleep.
Most of the sleep advice I can find is about getting Bub to sleep. But I have no problems getting him to sleep, just keeping him that way. Overnight he will scream loudly & continuously for up to an hour if not breastfed. I can't do that to the other kids as they need sleep for school.
My other two weren't great sleepers as babies, but by this age were only waking twice a night. This guy is at about 9 or 10 times!
Any tips for me? I'm keen to try almost anything at this stage!

Lie him next to you and breastfeed lying down so you can both sleep.
Try white noise to keep him asleep longer. Put a pillow or soft toy next to him so he doesn't feel alone.
Get a sling and wear him. You can put him in after he's asleep and wear him while you do what you need to and even when you sit down.
WHITE NOISE. it is a godsend. Both of my boys were exactly the same. Never slept past one sleep cycle they woke every 40 mins at night allllll night. I was at my wits end until I used white noise. The purpose is to have it loud enough so that nothing can distract, not even the sound of a bird.
It helps to keep them in a deep sleep and if they wake they hear the Same sound as when they were sleeping and go back to sleep.
The nine month regression is a real thing, if his sleep is worse than ever right now hang in there because it will get better.
Can you maybe have your mum or someone look after him so you can have a full day of nights sleep to recharge?
You can also use the homeopathic range from Brauer that makes sleep drops/ they're herbal and help the body to relax and stay asleep. You can get them at the chemist.
My 2 were the same! It was hell. I tried everything including sleep school. White noise was no help. Go sleeping helped with my first but not my second. Both improved at around 12 months of age, although didn't sleep all night til 3. No help but lots of sympathy
Are these sleep times during the day or overnight? One of my kids cat napped during the day but they both have slept though the night from a couple of months old (they were formula fed though).
If it's night time I can not begin to relate... But like I said both my babies slept through the night at that age.
Are they too hot? Too cold? Have you tried leaving them for a couple of minutes to self settle? At about 11 months my oldest woke every night for a couple of weeks, and eventually I gave up. I let him cry it out for 2 nights and he has slept through every since. I won't lie, it broke my heart to hear him cry but it was worth it. He is now 3, well adjusted, happy and a great sleeper!
