Climbing out of cot

My 2 year old has started climbing out of his cot. I dont want him in a bed yet because i dont believe he is ready for one. But obviously i dont want him hurting himself.
Any tips on either keeping him in his cot or transitioning to a bed? His cot converts to a toddler bed so we will be doing that first (as the last choice)

Time for a bed. I tried to keep my son in a cot he climbed out fell head first and split his head open. That was pretty much the clear cut decision of its time to move to a single bed.

I used a toddler bed with a foam mattress on the floor beside it in case of roll-outs. He did roll out just once so I was glad it was there, we woke to find him with his blankets all pulled down onto the floor mattress like he'd rolled out and couldn't be bothered getting back up into bed lol.

Definitely time for a bed. I had to move my son when he was 1. He was a gold star climber lol
We didn't have toddler beds back then so he moved to a single. Never fell out once.
It took a little more supervision around going to sleep time for a few weeks. But that usually happens whatever age you move them.
