CMV ?

CMV ?

I was wondering if there are any mummies ( or soon to be mummies out there) that have heard of CMV. If you haven't please google it. 50% of the population has had it but its mostly spread through toddlers and it can be a terrible thing if you contract this for the first time while pregnant. All women should know about it. Our family of four have just been hit by it as we had a pregnancy loss that time around when I contracted CMV. Just wondering if there are other mothers out there who have been affected by this silent evil?

So sorry for your loss! I am also currently pregnant and had read about in earlier pregnancies but it was one of those " I will just skim over it that won't affect me" things. Until a few weeks ago when my mum was unwell and her results came back positive for CMV. after looking it up and seeing what can happen I went and immediately got tested for it too. I was fortunate that my results came back saying that I had already had CMV in the past but not currently so it was unlikely to affect myself or the baby. After the scare I believe that there needs to be awareness made about it and women should be tested to see if they already carry it or need to be wary during pregnancy. It should be part of our early pregnancy screening tests. Good on you for putting it out there. Thoughts are with you xxx

I completely agree! In Italy they do routine testing for this and in the US and Aus it is the leading cause for congenital defects! It's very scary!
