Bed wetting

Bed wetting

My miss 7 still wets the bed and I find it really draining to get up every night trying to take her to the toilet and change sheets and wash the mattress protecter daily. I would rather she wore nappies until she grows out of it but it makes me feel like I am just being lazy. She is fine either way and feels no shame in wearing nappies ( unless other kids find out) and she doesn't mind the sheet and me getting her up. She hates wetting though and is so proud when she has a dry night. Its more about me not wanting to be on pee watch all night. I am not sleeping properly and my miss 5 is the same. What would you do?

Not lazy, but have you tried a bed pad? A bed pad sits on top of the top sheet, absorbs the liquid so you only wash the bed pad, or if it's disposable throw it away.
I also think it depends on how often she bed wets. If it's everynight I'd put her in a nappy if it is occasional I'd use a bed pad.
Something my parents did with my sister was carry her to the toilet before they went to bed. So she'd be half asleep, do a wee, before she wet the bed and then back to bed and dry in the morning. No point doing that if she just wets throughout the night. My sister was a one big pee kind of girl lol

Thanks ☺ She will wet everynight. If i get her up at least twice she won't wet the bed. We have a pad that you can lay over the sheet but she likes to wrap her legs around the doona and often kicks the pad to the bottom of the bed. My gut feeling is to not stress as she will grow out of it on her own. But it comes so easily to some kids that I wonder if it partly my fault for not doing more than just waiting for dry nappies. And now dragging her out of bed twice a night.

It can actually be a hormonal thing, when she turns eight speak to your GP about wether medication is appropriate.

I was wetting my bed until I was 13. It was due to being a heavy sleeper but possibly also a hormone thing. I can't remember what it's called but I ended up taking a medication which helped me stop. My cousin makes waterproof liners which you put on top of the sheet but the advantage to hers is they have "wings" which you can tuck under the mattress. I wet the bed til I was 12. My parents made me go back to wearing nappies at age 6, and I had no problem with that, because I hated waking every night to a cold wet bed. So if your daughter is open to it, go for it! Could be a win win. And mum's definitely need their sleep!

Thankyou all for the advise. I have taken her to the gp before for daytime wetting which she has now grown out of and she had an ultrasoundwhich came back fine. It is definitely something she will have to grow out of. Its sleep deprivation thats getting me down about it. Everything seems more unmanageable when you haven't slept properly in years ?
