No life is not meant to be all smooth sailing, most people will have challenges, adversity etc at some point. Even people who appear to have charmed lives, you don't know where they came from, what there background is, how many miscarriages they've suffered behind closed doors, or if they were abused as a child.
I've been described as incredibly positive by people I meet. But I'm not positive all the time, I have my down days but my positive far out weigh my negative. It was hard work for me to get there and a huge amount of adversity, depression, a suicide attempt, seeing a counsellor once a week and having CBT once a week and learning about what keeps me from sliding into the dark hole. To put that in perspective, yes I am overall a positive happy person even though I'm a sole parent caring for my adult son with severe multiple disabilities, and he has recently added epilepsy to that list.
As to the news, sometimes I watch, sometimes I don't, I've found reading the newspaper much easier for me as I can understand what's going on in the world without being overwhelmed. I think the news performs an important purpose and I don't want them to fill the news with fluff pieces. I choose to follow world events as I think it's really important to understand world events but I think it's important to and I like to support various causes.
There has always been bad stuff happening in the world and to us and our neighbours, so I don't buy into those comments from people that think the world was a much nicer place 100 years ago. Because do any light reading into history and you'll realise that's ridiculous.
Life's not supposed to be smooth sailing. I have fought and am still fighting daily just to keep what I have but I'd prefer that and to back and know that I event it then to be given it on a silver platter. The news is negative because that's all they show, think about all the feel good stories that don't make it to our screens... I have to think this way for it's too terrifying to think what I'm bringing my daughter into.

This is actually quite interesting.
I went to a course recently and this is a big difference in perspective between generation x and all further generations so far. Generation x were taught by the baby boomers that life is meant to be hard. Somehow generation x made it one of their goals to teach their children life is meant to be easy! Life isn't easy. Generation z and y are beginning to realise this. I wonder what perspective generation alpha will have.
In my opinion yes life is meant to be plain sailing and happy days.
We will face enough adversity and hardship that we have no control over - health issues, financial, trying to achieve goals, accidents, setbacks, loss etc. Those are the bumps, we don't need added negativity we need to fill the rest of our lives with happiness and fulfillment and gratitude.
Yes the media is too negative and skewed, unfortunately thats what's newsworthy, it's best not to watch local news.
Life is just what it is...smooth some days rocky some other days.
Sometimes I feel like a lot of people make their life harder then what it should be!
I feel like I'm pretty positive! I mean... I'm still standing, still looking forward, still greatful for everything and everyone! I dislike negative people, I can't handle (unwarranted) sob stories... We only have one time to live... So that's exactly what we should be doing! If it fails or things don't work out, then work it out! Get through it! Look for positives in dark days! Sounds all abit airy fairy, but so... Life is awesome and fun!
The news is negative, and the news is now everywhere! Things that wouldn't of even made the news years ago are now shoved in our faces! We can actually find out things at anytime of the day now...seems like a bit of a problem! Negative news stories seem to keep people more interested then happy ones!
