My partner, son and I are considering moving down to the Gold Coast at the start of next year. We have been a few times but only for day trips to theme parks ect so we don't know all to much about it. So my question is what is it like to live there? Is rent expensive? How is traffic getting to and from work? What are some affordable but nice suburbs to live in? Would we be able to find a decent 3 bed home for $350 or under? We currently live on the Sunshine Coast but everything is becoming increasingly expensive and there is nothing here to do on weekends ect. TIA

We love it , we have a one bedroom overlooking the whole of burleigh beach and pay 300 you will easily find a townhouse with 3 bedroom a few streets back from the beach with that budget
Traffic can be a bit congested at peak times and in bad bottle necks but on a whole I think it's reasonable burleigh/Miami/mermaid/broad beach all nice suburbs, currumbin too good luck I run a surfing mums group in burleigh too if your interested
You could get a unit or townhouse for that closer to the beach but not a reasonable house. We moved the other way, Gold Coast to Sunshine Coast and have found the Sunshine Coast more affordable. We don't find that there is a lack of things to do here, having lived in both places the only real difference in activities is the theme parks but it's not like you head straight out to them every weekend.
Depending on where you work, commuting to Brisbane is worse from the Gold Coast and going into the Bundall/Southport area at peak hour is exceptionally busy. Especially if you're used to the Sunshine Coast.
Holidaying at a place is really different to living there
